THE SCIENCE OF COLORS
HAS SPARKED INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION
ALL THE WAY TO LONDON . HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM
THE REVIEW.
The Chromatics mixtape is produced by HIGHWAY RECORDS, S.CON PROMOTIONS AND MASSIVE G (ROCK THE NATION SOUND) “from Trinidad and Tobago to France” and that is exactly what 'Science of Colours' delivers.
Easing you in with a Caribbean roots sped up live band club vibe, it captures both that relaxed listening, sand, sea and rum whilst the production is sharp enough for the track to be played in a club anywhere; and it will get you feeling like moving. In the mix are a few salsa-esque rhythms, which give it that touch of exotic sexy class, and lyrics that emphasise Chromatics' love for music, women and partying.
The production is fresh and skilled, and while it all flows smoothly the tracks are different and have both that studio spiced edge and that live sound feel combined into one.
The music changes with 'Way We Do' which almost has that Old Skool, Dre 2000 vibe to it with the strong centre point bass line and the same chilled out feel yet hard talking motive. A big contrast from the more fun loving club vibes of the first few tracks.
Going into track 10 the music definitely takes a turn with lyrics that need to be listened to.
From 'Takeover' which features Kimberly, Chromatics is seriously showing you what his team is about, and the soulful yet “don’t ramp with” voice of Kimberly softens the track but also gives it the union of female hardness it needs.
Nemesis and Skagnatty join Chromatics to bring back the party vibe but the harder tone is still there.
Towards the end of the tape and the tour coming to a close, slowly Chromatics takes you back to the softer party vibes but this time with an up-close, personal, sensual touch. From there we get a little deeper with 'Rumours' which has a hard beat but the lyrics are what really are to be heard on this track.
As with the whole mixtape 'Rumours' a deep thinking track is followed by an equally deep-natured vibe yet the energy always feels alive and straight from the soul of the Caribbean or the 'on road' Hip-Hop roots.
The 'Science of Colours' sends you through many different vibes and you don’t even realise unless your listening intensely to the engineered yet free-flowing path it takes you on. It also takes you on a tour through the different personality traits of this talented artist that is Chromatics
